But in 2013, over 12.5 million people in sub-Saharan Africa are estimated to have diabetes, and 330,000 people will die from diabetes-related conditions. Over the next 20 years, it is predicted that sub-Saharan Africa will have the highest growth in the number of people with diabetes of any region in the world – the 2013 estimated number is predicted to almost double in 20 years, reaching 23.9 million by 2030
